Tenryuji Seiji

The colour of seiji porcelain is one of the most favoured ceramic colours in Japan. Seiji porcelain includes the blue kinuta seiji that originates in the Song China and the green Tenryuji seiji that originates in the Yuang and Ming China. Some people say Tenryuji seiji owes its name to the fact that in the period of North and South Dynasties of Japan, General Takauji Ashikaga imported this type of porcelain from China to raise funds for the construction of Tenryuji Temple in Sagano, Kyoto; others say it is so called because an incense burner of this type of seiji was brought from China to Tenryuji Temple. I feel that Tenryuji seiji has an inner beauty that holds true to wabi-sabi, a Japanese aesthetic. Shinemon II has a passion for making seiji, trying to create the pure clean lustre of the original Tenryuji seiji .
